Micky Gee Discography

By Ari Niskanen

This is not a complete discography. There certainly are some recording sessions that I don’t know of.

I have tried to mention every song only once. However in some cases it would be confusing to mention some song only once. For example, when Shakin’ Stevens’ LP “A Whole Lotta Shaky” was released in 1988 it was combination of new songs and old songs from the early 1980’s. Not to mention old songs would leave wrong impression that Micky didn’t play on those cuts.

Information of recording sessions that are not listed here is welcome.

  2. A great discography. One correction. On Shaky’s ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ album, Mickey DOES play on Blue Christmas – the song was re-recorded for the album. He didn’t play on the original Blue Christmas EP version.

    Cheers

    Steve

  3. Hi there

I would be interested to know who was in Tom Jones’s backing band during the 1960s. I read somewhere that Pete Clifford and Dave Wendells both played lead guitar at some point.

    best wishes
    Nick

  4. Ari. You must be congratulated on this wonderful discography of Micky Gee. I had been doing some research on some other Welsh bands when I came across this. As one of the drunkan hooligans that used to visit the New Moon Club back in the day, I well remember the great performances of Memphis Bend, &. Good Rocking Tonite is one of my cherished possessions. I knew Micky did a lot of session work, and have collected over the years quite a few tks which I knew he played on, but never realised how much he had done till I saw your work. This is wonderfully informative. Cliff &. Phil Everly too. Wow! A man who was obviously well known in the music biz, but the general public should, outside of Cardiff anyway, definitely know more. Keep up the good work. John Sambrook, presenter, Fishfry, Radio Hafren

  5. There’s any chance to inform who were the all musicians who have participated in the album “THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF MUSIC… ROCK’N’ROLL” (1990), I’ll appreciate very much, all the best, best regards.

    1. Micky and Gavin Povey played on this album. If you can recognize their playing styles, it’s easy to hear they played on this LP.

To me it sounds like they used drum machine for most of the album.
Rockin’ The Night Away has real drummer, not drum machine. At least to me it sounds like that. It’s probably Howard Tibble who plays drums on that one.

Some of the tracks like If I Lose You have brass section. It’s probably same brass section Shaky used in his previous 1980s records.

You Shake Me Up was originally recorded and released in the middle 1980s. Roger McKew plays lead guitar on this one.

      Hope this helps.
