Thanks for the great breakdown of Micky's solos on various Shakin Stevens recordings. I listened to those intently when those recordings came out, and still do. I also thought his trick of sliding quickly up the low E string to, for example, the 12th fret, followed by a staccato pluck of the high B and E on the 12th, was a great rock and roll move. Maybe he got that off someone - I've not heard it since.

I think the technique you mean is, "Dead Thumb"! This is where the thumb (or flatpick) plays a constant root note. A good example of this is, "Suzie Q" by James Burton. Danny Gatton used this a lot, too. I heard that Micky was sacked by Gordon Mills whilst driving back from a gig by coach! Anyone heard this story??

Hi

Shaky had to cancel the above show after health problems but he now continues his tour and plays St Davids Hall Cardiff on 21st February 2011. It was interesting to hear Shaky say on Real Radio yesterday, that he is using a slap bass player for this tour. Micky always wanted to work with a string bass player and in later years wished he could have re-recorded all Shaky's records with a string bass.

Hi

Shaky plays St Davds Hall Cardiff this year in October - for sure there will be mixed emotions and no doubt songs and dedications for Micky.
